SFFS Beyond 50

The San Francisco International Film Festival has just made history as the first festival in the Americas to reach the 50-year mark. One of the world’s most respected film events, the Festival brought together a truly astounding array of film talent—from Spike Lee to Parker Posey to George Lucas, to name just a few. We hope you were able to join us in celebrating this extraordinary occasion.

Building on our phenomenal success with the International Film Festival, our goal is to transform the Film Society into a world-class year-round film exhibition organization. We have articulated four core areas for year-round organizational growth: embracing internationalism; educating Bay Area youth; celebrating Bay Area film and media; and exploring digital technology.

In order to create and sustain programs in these core areas throughout the year, we need your annual support. Your gift this year will help the Film Society’s present programs such as:

• Youth Education & Teacher Training Inspiring San Francisco teachers to build media literacy with their students ages 8–18, with the goal of growing true world citizens
  
• San Francisco International Animation Festival, November 8–11 Featuring a slate of programs for both family and adult audiences that demonstrate innovations in digital technologies
  
• New Italian Cinema, November 11–18 Showcasing the best in new Italian cinema, building relationships between international and local film communities
  
• San Francisco International Film Festival, April 24–May 8, 2008 Celebrating local filmmakers through the Golden Gate Awards program, as well as bringing the very best in international and domestic cinema to Bay Area audiences

Like most nonprofit arts organizations, the San Francisco Film Society depends on contributions to balance its budget every year. Only 15 percent of our costs are covered by ticket income; the rest comes from sponsors, foundations and individuals. We rely upon loyal, enthusiastic and generous donors to come forward in support of San Francisco’s premier film exhibition organization.
