San Francisco Film Society Partners with ComcastSF to Produce SF360 Movie Scene Television Show

February 6, 2007

The San Francisco Film Society and ComcastSF have joined forces to produce the only television show devoted to showcasing the variety and excitement of the San Francisco Bay Area independent film scene. SF360 Movie Scene hosted by Rod Armstrong of the Film Society and Cheryl Eddy of the San Francisco Bay Guardian had its world premiere at 8:00 pm on Monday, February 5 on ComcastSF–Channel 11. Featured guests on the inaugural show were Jeff Ross, the founder and director of the San Francisco Independent Film Festival; Cyrus Amini, the S.F.-based director of 25-Cent Preview, which is world premiering at Indie Fest; and local actor Dorian Brockington, the costar of Amini’s film.

Repeat broadcasts are scheduled for Tuesday, February 6 at 7:00 pm; Wednesday, February 7 at 6:30 pm; and Sunday, February 11 at 7:30 pm.

“SF360 Movie Scene brings a new platform to the growing group of SF360 initiatives designed to shine a light on the alchemical genius at work in San Francisco media,” said Graham Leggat, San Francisco Film Society executive director.

On the first Monday of each month for 30 engaging minutes Armstrong and Eddy will review and discuss current selected San Francisco arthouse and independent theatrical releases, report on and offer insights into the most interesting happenings on the SF filmmaking and film festival fronts, and chat with guests who are making a mark on the Bay Area film landscape.

The co-hosts have covered and participated in the SF movie scene since the late 1990s. Cheryl Eddy joined the staff of the San Francisco Bay Guardian in 1999 as a film critic and is now the associate arts and entertainment editor. She holds an MA in Cinema Studies from San Francisco State University and is a member of the San Francisco Film Critics Circle. Rod Armstrong has been a programming associate with the San Francisco Film Society since 2004 and is looking forward to presenting and celebrating the 50th San Francisco International Film Festival, April 26 to May 10, 2007. Prior to this, he served as editor-in-chief for the popular film-related Web site Reel.com where he wrote hundreds of reviews and conducted many interviews with luminaries such as Charlotte Rampling and Tilda Swinton.

SF360 Movie Scene joins the expanding array of year-round SF360 initiatives launched in the past 18 months by the Film Society to showcase the remarkable vitality and variety of the Bay Area film and media scenes including: SF360.org, a daily online magazine copublished with indieWIRE; the “one city/one film” SF360 San Francisco Movie Night in partnership with Ironweed Film Club; SF360 Live panels and discussions; and SF360 Film+Club, a monthly series of social screenings at S.F. nightclub Mezzanine.
